Colin Armstrong

Captain Colin Armstrong’s vehicle history.  His first vehicle was a 1926 Model “T” Ford.  He bought it when he was 15 years old for $15.00.  It ran fine for several months until he “Jack-knifed” it turning the corner on the west side road by the meat packing plant.  Broke the wishbone which he fixed but then his mother made him sell it to has older brother.  His second car was a 1936 Ford 2 door sedan, which he bought for $100.00.  He completely rebuilt the engine with the help of a mechanic friend.  He drove it for several years until he sold it and went into the service.  His third car was a 1940 Mercury convertible which he bought in 1945 in Florida while in the service for $700.00.  He drove it for several years.  Got married then traded the car for a 1949 Mercury convertible.  Upon the birth of his first child, a daughter he traded it in the Mercury for a 1955 Buick sedan which he drove all over the United States.  He then traded the 1955 Buick for a new 1960 Pontiac station wagon which he took to Hawaii.  Then he bought a 1959 Ford Thunderbird.  He then sold the Thunderbird and took the Pontiac wagon to Japan.  After he spent 2 years in Vietnam he went to Washington D.C. where he traded the Pontiac for a 1965 Fleetwood Cadillac which he drove again all over the United States.  He then bought a 1961 and 1965 Lincoln 4 door convertibles at a towing yard auction.  They both needed total restoration.  He then retired from the Navy and traded the Caddy for a 1972 Mercury sedan.  He also bought a 1965 Chevrolet El Camino pickup.  He traded the Mercury for a new 1977 Lincoln Mark V and gave the El Camino away and got a 1972 Ford Ranchero which he loaned to has son and he then bought a 1979 Ranchero pickup.  His wife, Milly, bought him a 1961 Lincoln convertible and he then bought a 1963, 1964, 1967, 1966, 1962, 1993, 1999 Lincoln Navigator SUV and 1999 Ford Ranger pickup.  Colin is still looking for his dream vehicle, but he has not yet seen it.  He is giving his Lincoln convertibles to his children and grand children when they become 25 years of age.  He has two grand sons that will be 25 this year.  He will give his children theirs when they get room to store them.
